Netflix Drops Trailer for ‘Spaceman’ Film

Netflix recently dropped a tantalizing trailer for “Spaceman,” the highly anticipated film adaptation of Jaroslav Kalfař’s novel, “Spaceman of Bohemia.” Published in 2017 by Little, and Brown, Kalfař’s book follows the journey of Jakub Procházka, a Czech astronaut on a mission to Venus who encounters a mysterious alien spider. Praised by Kirkus for its entertainment value and thought-provoking narrative, the novel joins the ranks of contemporary near-future literature.

In the upcoming adaptation, Adam Sandler takes on the role of Jakub, with Paul Dano lending his voice to Hanuš, the enigmatic spider. Joining them are Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, and Isabella Rossellini. With a screenplay by Colby Day and direction by Johan Renck of “Chernobyl” fame, “Spaceman” promises a stellar cinematic experience.

The trailer offers a glimpse into the film’s atmosphere, beginning with Rossellini, portraying Jakub’s superior officer, Commissioner Tuma, addressing Jakub 189 days into his solo journey. Tuma inquires about Jakub’s well-being, to which he responds with unwavering pride in his mission, dedicated to those back home.

As the trailer unfolds, Jakub’s encounter with Hanuš unfolds, with the spider assuring him of no harm and expressing curiosity about human emotions. Their interaction hints at a deepening connection as Hanuš offers assistance to alleviate Jakub’s emotional distress, setting the stage for a compelling narrative exploration.

“Spaceman” is slated to premiere on Netflix on March 1st, promising audiences an enthralling journey into the cosmos filled with intrigue, emotion, and existential reflection.
