America Ferrera has been confirmed to star in a series adaptation of Robert Katz’s “Naked by the Window: The Fatal Marriage of Carl Andre and Ana Mendieta,” according to a report by Deadline. The book, originally published in 1990 by Atlantic Monthly Press, delves into the life, career, and tragic death of Ana Mendieta, a prominent Cuban American sculptor and painter who was a key figure in the New York art scene. Mendieta died in 1985 at the age of 36 after falling from the window of her 34th-floor apartment.
The series will explore Mendieta’s life and untimely demise, as well as the aftermath of her death, including the trial of her husband, sculptor Carl Andre, who was acquitted of second-degree murder charges. Andre passed away just last month, adding another layer of complexity to the story.
Ferrera will not only star in the series but also serve as an executive producer. The project is in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios and is being written by Charise Castro Smith, a playwright who gained recognition for her film debut in 2021 as the co-writer and co-director of the animated film “Encanto.”
In addition to her involvement in “Naked by the Window,” Ferrera is also working on another literary adaptation. The acclaimed actor, who received an Academy Award nomination this year for her role in “Barbie,” is set to make her directorial debut with an adaptation of Erika L. Sánchez’s young adult novel “I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter,” a National Book Award finalist.
Ferrera expressed her excitement about the “Naked by the Window” series on Instagram, stating, “Incredibly honored and humbled to be producing a series about the brilliant and seminal artist Ana Mendieta with this amazing team.”
With Ferrera’s talent and passion for storytelling, coupled with the intriguing subject matter of “Naked by the Window,” audiences can anticipate a gripping and thought-provoking series that delves into the complexities of art, relationships, and justice.
